Let your motivations and values be your own; everyone else’s are just noise.
Race against your ghost.
You don’t need to work hard to please someone else.
Work for your own pride and mastery of craft, or as unto God, if you believe.
Focus on bettering yourself, not pleasing others. They won't be around for long.
If someone will be a stranger to you in seventeen months’ time, don't worry much about what they think of you.
You'll be around till the end… and even after. Reduce your future regrets.
This is my New Year’s message to you all.
I’ve been reading a lot about how power is shifting back towards the employer from the employee. I don’t believe in quiet-quitting or doing something to an unnecessarily low standard. I’m also not saying you should ignore your company’s goals. It’s about how you orient your own reward from doing the work asked of you.
The stories of how you improved yourself and what you learned, in combination with your contribution to company goals, are what your next hiring manager wants to hear.
